Religion: The Old Ways (pre-civilization shamanism)
Favorite foods: roasted wild game, mushroom stew, blackberries, bitter herbs
Thorne is a decorated military officer who left the Iron Council’s service after witnessing too many atrocities committed in the name of order. He’s spending his exile learning the old ways from the wilderness itself—the shamanic practices that predate civilization.
When the curse began spreading, he saw it as a sign that civilization was fundamentally broken and needed to be cleansed away. But as he learned more about the Pale Conductor and the seals, he realized that the solution wasn’t destruction—it was transformation. The old ways can only survive if there’s a world to practice them in.
Now he walks between the civilized lands and the wild places, a bridge between two worlds. The forest speaks to him in whispers, and he’s beginning to understand that it’s been warning them all along. Something primal and ancient is waking, and the only way to survive is to remember how to live as humans did before walls and kingdoms: as part of the natural world, not rulers of it.
His clan mark glows when he’s near powerful natural magic, and he’s starting to suspect that his shamanic bloodline is somehow connected to the first peoples who created the seals.
Relationships
- Roric Ironfoot
They met in the military and fought side by side for years. Roric's fall from faith troubled him deeply, but he respects the dwarf's redemption arc.
- Scout Nyx
A ranger who understands the old ways better than anyone. She's teaching him to listen to the forest instead of just hunting in it.
- Kalya Stormcaller
She reminds him of his sister who died in the wars. He's protective of her, which she finds amusing.
